Groundwork for Youth (GWY) is a comprehensive after-school and summer academic enrichment and mentoring program that serves students in grades K through 5. GWY’s program features include:
Tutoring and Homework Help
GWY’s staff provides one-on-one and group tutoring and helps students complete their homework assignments.
Intensive Literacy
The GWY curriculum centers around a balanced literacy program comprised of independent student reading and teacher reading, oral language, vocabulary and comprehension activities, writing and reading games. Students participate in literacy instruction each day and literacy building activities are infused into all aspects of programming.
Exciting Trips and Experiences
Students learn to swim, go on overnight camping trips and explore New York City’s vast cultural resources.
Athletics and Cultural Programming
Students participate in a wide range of enriching recreational activities which give them the opportunity to develop athletic skills, to learn to work in teams and to express themselves creatively.
Stronger Families
GWY provides opportunities for parents to get involved in their children’s education and offers parents tools and information to support their child’s development.
Neighborhood Impact
GWY works with a significant percentage of the children and families who live in the communities that we serve, allowing us to positively influence the youth culture of those communities.
