Program operates weekdays from 3pm to 6:30pm. College students must work at least two days per week. | |

Organization Summary: |
Groundwork, Inc. is a new nonprofit organization that helps young people in urban neighborhoods discover and develop their strengths, skills, and talents through high quality experiential learning and work programs. Groundwork for Youth, an academic and social enrichment program for children ages 7 to 13 living in public housing developments, launched in June 2002 in the neighborhood of East New York, Brooklyn. Groundwork for Youth gives college students the opportunity to make a meaningful difference in the lives of children and to connect with other college students who are deeply committed to helping children in Brooklyn grow and succeed. |

Position Description: |
Senior Team Leaders work with high school students and professional staff (including graduate students, teachers and social workers) to tutor and mentor children in one of three age groupings: 7 to 8 year olds, 9 to 11 year olds, or 12 to 13 year olds. The after-school program will operate a homework clinic as well as reading and writing classes taught by trained reading specialists. As a Senior Team Leader you will be responsible for supervising homework clinics and engaging students in an arts, athletics, community service, music, or other self-designed creative course. The program will be based in a public school in East New York (District 19), close to the 3 and L trains. |

Work with experienced high performance team of nonprofit executives. Work is performed under typical start-up operational conditions with frequent interruptions. |

Qualifications: |
Candidates must enjoy working with children and being active in athletics, arts, and other activities. They must have a strong school academic record (B average or higher), and commitment to continue to develop excellent academic skills, and a mature attitude. Candidates must be highly responsible and organized. Previous experience working with children in a summer camp or youth program preferred. Previous experience participating in a summer camp or after-school youth program preferred. |
